    Hey,

    This is Roberta, the News Editor. Anyway, I want you to write about the new graduation requirements for those students entering high school in 2007-2008.

    You can interview Mr. Robins, the AP of Cirriculum, Dr. Sidener, who will be able to tell you who else to talk to., and any freshman students and what they think. You can also do research on www2.dadeschools.net, and just write about the new requirements, why they were implemented, what the effect of these new requirements are on students and how the students feel about the new requirements.

    Please have this done by Thursday, October 25, the latest Friday.

    If you can’t get all the quotes from administrators for time reasons, then please have it by the end of the day MONDAY!

    We’re working on a really tight schedule to get the print version out!

    Hey Blanca…

    Just reminding you to please have your article up by 6:OO TONIGHT!!!

    Otherwise, it will be late and I would have to leave you the following note:

    Hey Blanca, it’s the News Editor and…

    YOU’RE IN BIG TROUBLE!

    The deadline for your article was on MONDAY, but I don’t even see so much as a first draft from you! Mr. Weiss told me that whoever doesn’t have their article in by now is in big trouble. The absolute final deadline to have the articles published in the paper is WEDNESDAY, but we may not meet that deadline now because YOU didn’t turn in your work. Even if you were to post your article to your blog on Wednesday, it would be too late because we were supposed to already have the articles edited, proofread and with sidebars!

    Please, next time, stick to the deadline. The fate of a newspaper depends on it.

    But still turn it in ASAP!!!! Like, NOW!!!!

    Hello News Staff Writers –

    We got the first issue out. Whoo! The next print issue is supposed to be out around the middle of January. Before then, we still need to come up with ideas for the online version. This is the hard thing about being a news writer – you can’t really “plan” news. Since we can’t predict the future, it’s kind of hard to pull news stories from out of the air. So what we need to do is get some leads or “beats” about what’s going on around school. I’m going to talk to Mr. Weiss and people in the office on Monday so that we can get some news stories to write about.

    Construction is kind of “played out”, as is the FCAT. We already wrote about Staph, and there are no other big scares at school.

    There’s going to be an Attendance Pep Rally on the 16th. That’s news that can go up on the site, maybe. And someone could write about the Miami Beach election results.

    Anyway, I did come up with three ideas for the January issue, you can check them out on my blog. Maybe they’ll give you inspiration and you guys can work on an investigative journalism piece of your own about a school policy or something like that.

    But don’t worry, guys! We’ll get out of this rut. I’ll write you again on Monday, and hopefully I’ll have some leads on potential news stories.

    I came up with a news story for Alessia since it ties in with an article she already wrote. I’m going to look for more leads on Monday, but still post up the ideas that you came up with last Friday, and we’ll go from there.

    Hey Blanca,

    I have a news story for you! You can write about the City of Miami Beach elections. Recounts or something are being held on November 20th, and a lot of the candidates are scary looking l0l. Ask Mr. Weiss about this, and maybe you and Alessia can work together since you’re both writing about elections (although they’re two different elections).

    I’m pretty sure that the holiday drives are going on now, seeing as the holidays are coming up. Please have the article in ASAP, it was supposed to be in by Tuesaday (yesterday) and I still need to work on your article with you and edit it.

    Great job, Blanca! I edited your -FY-IT article, it’s on my blog. You made my job easy. Your writing skills have really improved. I just substituted some words to clean the article up a bit. The quotes wrote the story and you ended the article very nicely. Yay!

    QUESTIONS
    1) how do you feel about the construction?
    2)does the transition affect your teaching?
    3)do you feel it is your responsability to move?
    4)do you like the new building?
    5)are you aware that the district hired 3 movers?
    6)has it been a chalange to move?

    1)I think its very constructive, they’re building a building and it’s nice
    2)I teach some times [pause] it affects students a little bit, i was gonna let them use their text books today and now they cant and i hered im gona be in a closet

    2)where are you going? “id be moved to…well originaly to the 300 wing cause thats were the scholars academy is but they were giving me a romm with a darkroom in it(photography) and lots of chemicals so now im going to the 400 wing. obviously id prefer to be in a nice clean new building close to the parking lot [laugh] being 7 months pregnant but ….

    4)should you be paid? um if they wanted to offer to pay us to come over brake to give us a chance to settle into new calssromms that would be nice

    Hey Blanca, well I edited everyone’s first draft so far except yours because you didn’t print it out. So far your piece seems a little too much focused on yourself, I realize that its your first draft and you still need to gather information. Maybe you can focus on the delay to have the computers up and running (it could be the angle for your piece). If you need more direction call me or leave me a note……..Thank you

    Hey Blanca, well even though I like the community service piece, I don’t want you to write about anything that you don’t feel comfortable writing about so you can think of something else or you can take a new angle on the community hour piece. You can change the angle to your opinion on wether or not you think students should not be able to graduate unless they have their community service hours complete…….I’m sure you can think of something better if you don’t like this idea but just let me know soon enough so I know what to expect from you……….Thanks :)

    Hey Blanca,
    I’m glad youre part of the features section! I generally classify features as anything from profiles (on clubs, teachers, students, otherwise cool people, etc.) to anything that isn’t really timely-trends, things going on in the city, hobbies, etc. It’s a really fun topic becuase there is so much to write about. Since no one posted ideas, I am assigning them. This one will require a bit of research, but I don’t think it will be too hard. I’m sure a lot of teachers, students and administrators did something really cool for their spring break. Your job is to find them and talk to them. Make sure they’re legit interesting, not something like “I went to the beach a few times, i hung out with my friends and i got a new dog”. Find people who went somewhere really fascinating, or saved sea turtles, etc. I think it would be really cool if you could fit an administrator in.
